Why You’ll LOVE This Recipe

Have you ever been to Dairy Queen and have something you didn’t like? Yea, me neither!

This Peanut Buster Yogurt Parfait is a play off of Dairy Queen’s version. This version uses greek yogurt in place of the ice cream! This means there’s more protein in this small treat!

Another reason to LOVE this recipe is the simplicity. This treat is simply layered chocolate sauce, greek yogurt, and topped with nuts. Sometimes simple is best.

Dairy Queen’s Peanut Buster Parfait

Dairy Queen describes their sweet treat in an irresistible way- ‘Our Peanut Buster® Parfait Royal Treat® has loads of peanuts, mounds of creamy, smooth DQ soft serve and tons of rich hot fudge layered high for one tempting treat.

This is an ice cream dessert with a base layer of chocolate sauce, ice cream, then topped with peanuts! That sounds like the perfect sweet and salty snack.

Peanut Buster Parfait Ingredients

A part of the simplicity of this recipe comes with the minimal amount of ingredients! You only need three items and you’ve got a Peanut Buster Parfait!

Greek Yogurt– I love using greek yogurt in recipes. If you prefer a bit more sweetness, use a vanilla flavored yogurt.

Chocolate Sauce– This can be anything from Hershey’s to a high quality local variety.

Salted Peanuts– I recommend using salted peanuts as it create a delicious sweet and salty taste!

If you want to make this parfait a bit more special, try topping it off with a maraschino cherry!

How To Make A Peanut Buster Parfait

There is no cooking required or special techniques needed to make this Peanut Buster Parfait!

Start by adding chocolate syrup to the bottom, plop in some greek yogurt until its about halfway full, add in another layer of chocolate sauce, then, come back with even more greek yogurt until it reaches the top. Finish it off with EVEN MORE chocolate sauce and a handful of salted peanuts.

That’s it! The simplicity makes this a great treat to involve the kids. They can make their own parfaits using the portions they want. You can even encourage them to try to make a design on the side of the cup with the chocolate sauce. Maybe see who can make the best heart shape!

Expert Tips and Tricks

  • When adding the chocolate layers, it may help to tilt the cup around in order to get an even spread across its entirety.
  • You don’t need as large of a container as you’d expect. If you use too large of a cup the ratio of chocolate to greek yogurt to peanuts will be too heavily dominated by the greek yogurt.
  • Use a fun spoon! I used an appetizer spoon to enjoy this parfait. This makes the experience more exciting than normal!

Variations to Try

Stick with the classics or make some change-up’s, it’s up to you!

  • Try using caramel sauce instead of chocolate sauce
  • Include some fresh fruit like slices of strawberries or banana coins
  • Add nuts throughout the parfait
  • Top it off with a swirl of whipped cream

If you find a combination that is just irresistible, leave it in the comments below, i’d love to give it a taste!

A Word From A Registered Dietitian

This recipe isn’t intended to be a ‘better for you swap’ for DQ’s classic Peanut Buster Parfait. It is simply a play off of it and something completely it’s own. Enjoy the classic if you want or enjoy this version if you want!

Now, about this Peanut Buster Parfait. This has both the sweet and salty aspects of the chocolate sauce and salted peanuts. In addition, it is jam-packed with greek yogurt.

As a dietitian, I love a recipe that makes greek yogurt delicious and fun to have. Greek yogurt is an amazing source of high quality protein. It also has an abundance of essential nutrients.
